I know it's kind of a gross photo, but cool nonetheless. Posted by Hello

One time I watched a dozen vultures devour a dead deer on the roadside north of Auburn. It was the coolest thing. I just sat and watched from a distance. Then I inched closer and closer. Sometimes they got scared and flew into nearby trees, but then would fly down and resume.

That's not gross; that's nature and life's cycle.

The cat looks like its being eaten alive. Is that possible? Poor kitty.

The bird was first spotted with the kitten by some students. They threw rocks at him to free it, but when they approached it was already dead. The hawk retreated to a nearby tree, and a student picked up the carcass and brought it to him. A whole bunch of kids then gathered around in a very wide circle, the hawk hoped down to the ground and started eating after casing it out for a good hour. He let em get around six feet away before he got spooked and took off.
This photo was taken in 2004, I have some from earlier than that where I shot him fighting with a Blue-Jay in mid air. I'll look for those.
